One of the surprises when we moved here was discovering a guy in a mud brick house in Mudgeeraba who grows epazote. I'd only known the imported dried version to be available - and it's a pretty awful product at that. Anyway, I bought a couple of seedlings and they flourished - so much so that epazote now sprouts unprompted between pavers, amidst pebbles - basically anywhere a seed falls. And lots of seeds fall. I now have a container of maybe 10,000 or more seeds and a providor who's interested in taking 40-50 kilos of dried leaves. Now those of you who know epazote will know that the dried leaves weigh about the same as feathers. So 50 kilos of dried leaves would require me to plant many, many thousands of plants. Anyway, until that happens, I use the leaves at home - in this case in home-made quesadillas with zucchini flowers & a plaited mozzarella that's as close to the proper queso de Oaxaca as can be bought in Australia. Avocado from the garden and a salsa made from serrano chillies from our garden.
